The Window Duct

Posted on November 18th, 2002 | by

Okay, so this isn’t an article; but I can’t let something this ridiculous go unpublished.
It’s winter again in the snowy bounds of the Northeastern USA, temperatures are dropping,
and in my opinion I would be a fool not to take advantage of it.

Luckily, my computer desk is directly in front of a window. All it took was a length of
dryer hose, some old blankets to stuff the window opening, some electrical tape and
cardboard. YES, it’s ghetto-fabulous, but it works… WELL.

My primary concern is moisture; the last thing I need is a puddle in my case. To test
the level of moisture this thing was sucking into my case, I put paper towel over the
fan intake. After running the computer like this for an entire night, no moisture built
up on the paper towel at all. Although weather conditions vary and it could be a
problem down the road, I will be taking precautions to make sure it doesn’t make it
inside my case.

Anyway, I know you aren’t here to hear me ramble on, you’re here for the pics…

I expect temps to drop even more once it starts getting colder. I don’t know what the temp
was outside when testing, altough it was most likely ~1-2c. For the time being, I still
saw a very nice drop in case and CPU temps:
